Respiratory Therapy practice, in an increasingly complex healthcare environment, requires Respiratory Therapists (RTs) to make many ethical decisions in situations where there may no clear-cut answer. A Commitment to Ethical Practice is a document developed by RTs, for RTs, that focuses on the practice of Respiratory Therapy from an ethics-based perspective. This document utilizes the fundamental principles of medical ethics to provide guidance for professional relationships, responsibilities, behaviours and decision-making that applies to all areas of RT practice.
A Commitment to Ethical Practice is to be used in conjunction with the CRTO Standards of Practice and Professional Practice Guidelines as well as all relevant legislation, regulations and employer policies.
